8Getting StartedAgendaMaker is an easy program to use, but it's easy to get lost in it's detail. Remember: this program is very flexible - it's up to you to set it up in a way that's suits your style of organization. Some suggestions on getting started:Print the Help items which interest youEach help item can be printed simply by choosing Print from the File Menu.Installing AgendaMakerTo install, simply place a a copy of AgendaMaker onto your computer. If using AgendaMaker to exchange electronic mail (or messages) on a network, place a copy on each computer which will exchange mail. Be sure to configure the General Preferences (from the File menu) of each copy.Get familiar with the terms and conceptsRead the Basic Ideas help item. This will familiarize you with some of the basic ideas, such as Working vs. Planning mode, item types, filters, tags, etc. Pay special attention to the Working and Planning modes, as this is a central (though optional) concept of AgendaMaker.Open and examine the "Starter File"This document contains many sample items, tags, filters, etc. which may help demonstrate some of AgendaMaker's features. Feel free to use this file as the basis for your own document.Create your document fileCreate your own document file. Either create a new document (choose New from the File Menu), or use the Starter File as a template for your document (possibly saving it under a new name via Save As... from the File menu).Create some tagsCreate any tags (projects, priorities, and statuses) you may need. You can always edit/move them later.Add some itemsTry adding some items yourself. Experiment with the various attributes (repeat, date, time, preparation, etc.).Create some filtersTry creating some filters for yourself. Experiement with the various settings to see how the filters limit which items are shown.Try changing modesTry toggling the mode (Working or Planning) to see how it affects which items are shown. Remember: Planning mode always shows all items (depending upon the current filter and view), while Working mode never shows dated items unless you should be working on them.Try messaging, conferencing, or mailing someoneIf you're on a network, the messaging, conferencing, and mail functions can be fun - and a great way to get a "feel" for the program.Enter some real itemsStart using AgendaMaker to record useful information, such as phone numbers, notes, birthdays, appointments, mail from online services, house chores, etc. Don't worry too much about doing it "right" in the beginning - you can always recategorize your items later.
